How to visit Zion National Park ?

To get to Zion National Park, the closest major airport is McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, which is approximately 160 miles away. From there, you can rent a car and drive to the park, which takes around 2.5-3 hours. Alternatively, you can fly into Salt Lake City International Airport and drive approximately 4.5 hours to the park.

Before your trip, it's essential to book park shuttle tickets in advance. During the peak season (April through October), the park operates a mandatory shuttle system to control traffic and protect the environment. Shuttle tickets can be purchased online at Recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777. It's advisable to book your tickets a month in advance as they tend to sell out quickly.

The entrance fee for Zion National Park is $35 per vehicle, valid for seven days. An annual park pass is available for $70, granting unlimited access to Zion for one year. The America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass is also an option, priced at $80, which provides entrance to all national parks in the United States for one year.

There are several iconic hikes and activities within Zion National Park. The Narrows is a popular hike where visitors can walk through a narrow canyon along the Virgin River. Angel's Landing is another must-do hike that offers panoramic views of the park but requires a good level of fitness and a head for heights. Other popular activities include horseback riding, rock climbing, and stargazing.

For dining options, consider the Whiptail Grill, a unique and casual eatery offering Mexican-American fusion dishes. Another option is the Bit & Spur Restaurant and Saloon, which serves southwestern cuisine and features a full bar. For a more upscale dining experience, visit the Zion Lodge's Red Rock Grill, which offers splendid canyon views alongside a diverse menu.

When it comes to accommodation, there are a few options within and near the park. The Zion Lodge offers cabins and hotel rooms inside the park, providing easy access to the park's attractions. Alternatively, the town of Springdale, just outside the park, has several hotels and motels, including the Driftwood Lodge and the Cable Mountain Lodge.

Off the Beaten Path: For an unusual travel experience, consider visiting the lesser-known Kolob Canyons, located in the northwest corner of Zion National Park. This area offers a more peaceful and secluded experience, with fewer crowds and equally stunning scenery. The Taylor Creek Trail is a pleasant hike that leads to the beautiful Double Arch Alcove, providing an unforgettable experience away from the park's main attractions.

Learn More about Zion National Park

Zion National Park is an American national park in the southwestern state of Utah, USA.

Covering an area of 593 km2 (of Utah's nearly 220,000 km2), the park is famous for its deep canyons carved by the Virgin River and its tributaries into coloured rocks tens of millions of years old. It consists of low desert areas, riparian areas at the bottom of the canyons and forested areas on the mountain tops. The park's fauna includes 78 species of mammals, 291 species of birds, 44 species of reptiles and amphibians and eight species of fish. Over 900 species of plants are found in the park, ranging from cacti in the desert areas to coniferous forests in the mountainous areas.

At an altitude of 2,000 m, between Las Vegas and Bryce Canyon, overwhelming by its dimensions, one can admire this 135 million year old gash, more than 600 m deep, with tan and white hues. Contrary to the Grand Canyon or Bryce Canyon, one arrives in the valley by the bottom (while coming from Las Vegas) and one climbs then to admire it from the top. On the other hand, at the bottom of the valley, one can relax at the edge of the Virgin River where you will find the office of the Rangers, the small museum and the buildings of the lodge, restaurant and hotel.
